Anonymous asked: Any advice on when you're feeling like you'll never be good enough? I feel like girls I thought I was better than have been beating me a lot lately. I want to WQ one day but I also know the percentage of dancers that actually do is so small, and I want to be okay with the fact that it may never happen but sometimes I feel like all the tumblr dancers and the culture today is that if you dont WQ you arent good and your dance career means nothing.
Okay so literally only 1% of the Irish dancing population qualifies for worlds so if your dance career means nothing if you don’t world qualify then that means that 99% of all Irish dancers have meaningless dance careers… which is just not true. There are THOUSANDS of incredible dancers that never make it to worlds. Dancers that I watch and think “wow they’re so amazing” and yet the opinions of a few judges prevent them from dancing on the world stage. Your dancing has meaning whether you dance at worlds or not. As long as you are passionate and as long as you put everything you have into your dancing, your dancing/ dance career is worth SO MUCH. I hate watching technically perfect dancers that look angry or bored or unexcited while they’re dancing. To me, a dancer with passion and excitement about his/her dancing is so much more enjoyable to watch than someone who only cares about winning. And anyways, YOU SHOULD NEVER RESIGN YOURSELF TO NOT QUALIFYING FOR THE WORLDS. Before I qualified I thought about the possibility of never qualifying as well, and as soon as I cast that mindset aside I did it. You always have potential. And while not qualifying for worlds is not a bad thing under ANY circumstances, there’s always a chance that you could; and if you work hard enough you will. Cast your negative thoughts aside, work your hardest, and focus on competing against yourself rather than others. Hope this helps, good luck with everything.
